April is recognized as the Month of the Military Child in Canada, a time dedicated to acknowledging and fostering the resilience, adaptability, and sacrifices of children in military families. The Queen’s Military Veterans Network employee resource group is inviting members of the campus community to recognize the month by wearing teal on April 28.
The colour teal has been chosen to represent the Month of the Military Child because this shade incorporates elements from the colours of all branches of the Canadian military, with blue representing the Air Force, green for the Army, and a combination of blue and white symbolizing the Navy.
In addition to the work done by the Queen’s Military Veterans Network to support veterans and their families on campus, a number of Queen’s researchers are engaged in important work to better understand the unique challenges faced by the children of military personnel. For instance , in the School of Rehabilitation Therapy, focuses on the mental health and wellbeing of defence and public safety personnel families.
