This course is intended as a general survey of English, and to a lesser extent Scottish, Irish and Welsh, history insofar as they interacted with English history, from the Anglo-Saxon invasions of the fifth and sixth centuries through the end of the Plantagenet dynasty a millennium later. The scope of the course is broad, and it will introduce the student to the main currents of social, legal, religious, economic, political, and cultural history during the period. Please note that attendance will be taken and will comprise a significant portion of the grade. Students will also complete weekly quizzes. The balance of assessment will be in the form of short writing assignments and take-home tests.
