Part of the Ka’tarohkwi Festival of Indigenous Arts, curated by Dylan Robinson
A remarkable orchestral and multimedia experience of the powerful poem I Lost My Talk by Mi'kmaw elder Rita Joe. The National Arts Centre Orchestra combines John Estacio's score with the choreography of Tekaronhiáhkhwa Santee Smith, Indigenous actor Monique Mojica, and filmmaker Barbara Willis Sweetie to present a heartfelt, revealing confession of anguish and the quest for expression.
Then, experience the creative genius of Canadian throat singer Tanya Tagaq, 2014 Polaris-Prize winner. In Qiksaaktuq, Tagaq improvises a lament for the murdered and missing Indigenous women alongside Christine Duncan and the National Arts Centre Orchestra.
Qiksaaktuq was first com91ÊÓƵed by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra with support from the Gov. of Canada. We thank Tanya Tagaq, Christine Duncan, Jean Martin/orch., Christopher Mayo and the TSO.
